Why Support Us?

Orchestras across America are valued both as vital to the creative life of their communities and as essential contributors to civic priorities. Families, children, and others are closely connected with their local orchestra. The population of Utah is typically made up of large families whose parents strive to bring musical education and cultural training to their children beyond that provided in the public schools. This fine arts value and connection with the symphony will benefit the 265,000 citizens in 13+ smaller communities of the Salt Lake southeastern and southwestern region.

  1. Orchestras are perceived as authentically diverse institutions—onstage, on staff, and in their governance—and serve a truly diverse public.
  2. Acknowledging the centrality of the symphonic repertoire and the unique capacity of orchestras to perform it, orchestras evidence strong cultural citizenship, including playing music that speaks to the community in ever more meaningful and relevant ways.
  3. Through leadership, partnerships, and stewardship, the Oquirrh Mountain Symphony addresses community needs and serves the public.
  4. Cultural citizenship works in tandem with the orchestra’s civic mission, artistic profile, and the unique contributions it offers to the community.

By being able to offer a local symphony concert season to smaller communities in the region, the quality of life and civic priorities of these municipalities will be greatly enhanced, especially through these economic times of hardship and downturn. By block-booking concerts and sharing the resources of a regional symphony, individual community resources will be conserved and be available for other important civic projects.
